St Mary Magdalene Church ‘new loo’ project

In June 2025, a major project was kicked off to fund the installation of a toilet at Cottingham’s Grade I Listed Parish Church, St Mary Magdalene.

This much needed facility will be extremely helpful for church services, especially weddings and funerals. It will also massively increase the viability of the church as a community space for social gatherings, events and concerts.

As at 1 September 2026, a total of £19,718 has been raised towards a £50,000 target. Here’s a quick snapshot of some of the fundraising activities and the money raised. You can click on the images for more information.

Cottingham Parochial Church Council (PCC) has now applied for a ‘faculty’ (planning permission) from the Diocese and has submitted architect’s plans giving several different options for the toilet’s location within the church. The Diocese Advisory Committee discussed the application at their meeting in July 2026 and are planning to make a site visit to the church before the end of the year.

Thank you to everyone who has helped support this project so far. We are making excellent progress!
