Cottingham Church was alive with music on 16 August when the 24 Carat Jazz trio returned to St Mary Magdalene as part of the church’s popular ‘Sunday Sessions’ series. Featuring Jane Smith on vocals and tenor sax, John Deane on piano and Kevin Griffiths on double bass, the band played an engaging set of popular jazz classics together with some more modern pieces with a jazz twist.
With pink fizz and canapes to accompany the music, it was a fabulous way to spend a Sunday afternoon. The concert raised £500 towards the St Mary Magdalene Church ‘New Loo’ fund, bringing the total raised so far to £19,718! Thanks to the musicians, everyone who helped organise this concert and to our lovely, appreciative audience for making it a memorable afternoon.
There’ll be more music at Cottingham Church on Sunday 13 September (3pm), when Kettering singing group Sound Sensation will be entertaining us as part of the church’s Harvest Celebration. Tickets are £10 including a light afternoon tea from Ann Sturman on cottinghamchurch@gmail.com, telephone 07526 398898. Children go free and all profits will go to the New Loo fund.
