Little Meadow – PC meeting

Around 30 to 40 people came along to a meeting of Cottingham Parish Council’s planning committee on Thursday 25 August. The meeting had been convened to consider the planning application (reference 16/00337/RVC) to vary the conditions of the planning consent granted for Little Meadow on Corby Road, so as to allow for up to six mobile homes to be present on the site at any one time. The current conditions, granted in February 2014, allow for two caravans on the site at any one time (of which no more than one shall be a static caravan) and a utility / day room.

The main points and concerns raised by residents were:

  • Corby Borough Council has exceeded its required allocation for traveller pitches in the Borough.
  • The site entrance already causes a hazard on an unlit, 60 mph, narrow rural road and has caused problems in the past.
  • There are already issues with sewerage and outfall.
  • The site lies on a regional green infrastructure corridor and the existing development is already unsuitable for this rural environment (when allowing the appeal for permanent residency in 2014, the Planning Inspector acknowledged that the development was harmful to both the character and appearance of the area, but that this harm was outweighed by the material consideration as it related to the specific requirement for a site to meet the need of the appellant at that particular time).

Cottingham Parish Council has agreed to oppose the application.
