Travelling Crib

cribOn Sunday 27 November, our Advent Service this year will be held at Rockingham Church joining together with the other churches in our Benefice.  The ‘Travelling Crib’ will begin its journey at this service too.

Please call or email Angela (01536 772297 or p.j55@btinternet.com)  if you are interested in being part of the Travelling Crib’s journey.

It is a set of knitted Nativity figures handmade by our village group of crafters. The crib is blessed in church on Advent Sunday and is then taken home by a family who plays host to the nativity characters for the night.

The idea is to help us remember the journey Mary and Joseph made to Bethlehem, and as a family take time to stop and think about the true meaning of Christmas.  The crib is accompanied by a book with pictures to colour and a place to leave a Christmas message from your family.

The next day the family delivers the crib to the next hosts.  It is also an opportunity for families to get to know each other a little better as they receive and deliver the crib.  The last family delivers the crib back to church in time for Christmas Day.
