From Cottingham Parochial Church Council
We are delighted to let you know that the long awaited repairs to the church clock are due to start on 15 May!
We’re not sure at this stage how long the work will take, but on completion, we expect to have a fully operational clock, with the hourly strike re-instated.
Many villagers have told us they’d like the clock to strike throughout the night as it did previously, but we recognise that this practice is becoming less common and, in the interests of being a good neighbour, we have invested over £2,000 in a night silencer so the chimes can be silenced at night. Guided by the Noise Act 1996, it is our intention to initially silence the chimes through the ‘quiet’ hours of the night, these being from 11pm to 7am. We will keep this under review.
If you’d like any further information with regard to this, please contact any member of the Parochial Church Council, as detailed below.
