Cynthia Joy Martin, known to everyone as ‘Joy’, sadly passed away on 6 February 2021, aged 89.
She and her late husband Harry Martin started their married life together in a small cottage on The Hill, Middleton, where their first son Stephen was born in 1951. Soon after, they moved to 29 Berryfield Road, Cottingham, where in 1954 Andrew was born. Joy was a homemaker and, at harvest time, earned pin money by picking potatoes etc. She was content looking after her family and they holidayed on the east coast in a caravan. Their daughter Cindy came along in later life.
Joy had never travelled on a train or plane. Her passion was her garden and she was happiest with her flowers and, later, her grandchildren. Her health had deteriorated over the past few years and Andrew became her carer. She was a kind and caring person and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
