Platinum Jubilee Weekend
02/06/2022 - 05/06/2022
To celebrate this special occasion, Cottingham and Middleton are joining together to host several events.
Thursday 2 June
The pub opens at 12 noon and, from 4pm, there’ll be street food stalls (cash only), a hog roast, cheese and desserts stall, Pimms bar, cider tent and cocktail bar. At 4.30pm, there’ll be live music from ‘Rocking Revival’, playing the best of the 50s, 60s and 70s.
Congregate in the field next to the Dale on the Jurassic Way footpath at 9.30pm for the Beacon Lighting at 9.45pm. Local trumpeter Rob Cross will be marking the occasion with the playing of ‘Majesty’, a fanfare written especially for the Queen’s Jubilee.
Friday 3 June
Church Bells ringing, from 9.30am
Church service at St Mary Magdalene, Cottingham, 10am
Join Rev Amanda Oliver at St Mary’s for a 30 minute service to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Everyone welcome.
St Mary Magdalene Church will be decorated and open from 10am to 5pm over the Jubilee weekend (from Thur 2 to Sun 5 June). Cottingham schoolchildren will be creating some decorations, and villagers are being invited to adopt a window or area of church for decoration in the Jubilee colours of red, white and blue. As it’s nearly time for bedding plants, how about buying some red and white geraniums, then you can take them home to plant afterwards? Any kind of arrangement is fine though, all we really need is your imagination! If you’d like to get involved, please contact Angela Preston-Jones on 772297, email p.j55@btinternet.com, or call Mary Freestone on 771339.
Jubilee Afternoon Tea with the Alpacas
