Cottingham Annual Parish Meeting
April 17 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Cottingham registered electors are invited to attend Cottingham’s 2024 Annual Parish Meeting. This way of holding the Annual Parish Meeting has proved to be a really interesting and informative event, so we do hope you can join us. Coffee, tea and biscuits will be available.
Here are some interesting facts about annual parish meetings.
- Parish meetings in England date back to the Middle Ages. A parish meeting is NOT a meeting of the Parish Council (Parish Councils didn’t exist until 1894), but it is required by the Local Government Act 1972 that parish meetings are convened and chaired by the Chair of the Parish Council.
- The purpose of the annual parish meeting is for the electorate of the parish, particularly groups, organisations and individuals actively engaged with the community, to share news and reflect about what each has accomplished and experienced during the previous year.
- The annual parish meeting is a relatively informal event for the community.
