Cottingham and Middleton Community is a new What’s App community for our villages that acts as an umbrella for the various What’s App groups we have in the villages.
We’ve provided details of all the groups in the community below. When you join one of these, you’ll automatically be added to the C&M community, where you can then view and join (or ask to join) any of the other groups that interest you.
We’ve also made a few changes to more closely define what each group is for. This will hopefully avoid messages being duplicated across different groups, and you can choose what you want to hear about.
Here’s an overview of how the community works, and the different groups you can join.
You’ll automatically be added to this top level group when you join the community. This is for the community admins to post important messages that are relevant to all members.
Nicola Tyldesley’s Cottingham Chit Chat group has been expanded to cover both villages. You can come here to share news, chat with villagers, ask for recommendations, seek advice – anything you like!
We’ve combined the separate Cottingham and Middleton Neighbourhood Watch Groups under the title ‘VIllage Neighbourhood Watch’. This group is exclusively for villagers to report crime or safety issues in the villages or local area that may affect residents or their property, for example suspicious activity, attempted thefts or break ins, road blockages or accidents.
A new group for you to post any items you have for sale, to give away, or that you are looking for. The admins of this group hold no responsibility for the condition of items sold/gifted. This lies purely with the buyers and sellers in the group.
Join this group to keep updated on events happening in the villages. There’ll be event information in the village news and chat group too, but we’ve set this group up for people who prefer to hear what’s happening, but without the chat.
Any calendar entries posted in any of the groups also appear in the ‘events’ section at the top of the community screen. This allows you to see upcoming events in date order. Please note though that you can only see post and events that are added AFTER you join the groups. For a full list of village events, see the events page on this website.
Adding a new group
If you run a WhatsApp group in the village that you’d like to add to the community, or if you’d like to create a new one, click on the green ‘add group’ button at the bottom of your community screen. You can then send a request to add your group, for the admins to review.
You will remain admin of your group, you can choose to approve new members before they join, and you can remove your group from the community at any time, without it being affected in any way. The only thing that would change is that any of your members who are not a member of another group in the C&M community would be removed from the community too. They can always rejoin though, by joining another C&M community group.
