SUMMARY:Full peal\, St Mary Magdalene
DESCRIPTION:A group of bell ringers have challenged themselves to ring a peal at all the 5-bell towers (i.e. towers with 5 bells) in the Peterborough Diocese\, during its centenary year. \nThese 5-bell towers are not rung so often\, and they will be visiting Cottingham on June 2nd. Ringing will commence at 2pm and the peal is expected to last around three hours. \nWhen rung on 7 bells\, a peal is a non-stop sequence of a minimum of 5\,000 changes\, where each sequence is different and cannot be repeated. On 5 bells\, which is what we have at Cottingham\, the maximum number of permutations (different orders) is 120\, so there is some duplication in the sequences\, but the bells are still rung for three hours to make the full peal. It is the bell ringers’ equivalent of a marathon\, requiring concentration and stamina to complete.

SUMMARY:Cottingham Annual Parish Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Cottingham registered electors are invited to attend Cottingham’s 2024 Annual Parish Meeting. This way of holding the Annual Parish Meeting has proved to be a really interesting and informative event\, so we do hope you can join us. Coffee\, tea and biscuits will be available. \nHere are some interesting facts about annual parish meetings. \n\nParish meetings in England date back to the Middle Ages. A parish meeting is NOT a meeting of the Parish Council (Parish Councils didn’t exist until 1894)\, but it is required by the Local Government Act 1972 that parish meetings are convened and chaired by the Chair of the Parish Council.\nThe purpose of the annual parish meeting is for the electorate of the parish\, particularly groups\, organisations and individuals actively engaged with the community\, to share news and reflect about what each has accomplished and experienced during the previous year.\nThe annual parish meeting is a relatively informal event for the community.\n\nIf you have any queries\, please contact George West-Robinson\, Chair\, Cottingham Parish Council on 07891 159155\, email grwrconsultingltd@gmail.com

DESCRIPTION:Cottingham Parish Council will soon take delivery of 315 free trees\, that they applied for last year from the Woodland Trust. \n\n\n\nThe Friends of Green Spaces (FroGS) group of volunteers are holding a community planting event on the morning of Saturday 16th March and they’d like to invite villagers to join them to get the trees planted at the top end of the Dale. \n\n\n\nPlease come along with families\, friends\, refreshments and\, if possible\, a spade. The FroGS will guide and instruct as to what is to be planted where\, and how\, on the day. They’ll be installing fence posts beforehand and attaching wire fencing to the posts after the trees have been planted. \n\n\n\nAs well as wanting to get the trees in the ground as soon as possible\, FroGS also want to ensure that the project is complete before the cattle come back into The Dale on 1st April. \n\n\n\nWe really hope that as many of you as can make it will turn up\, plant some trees\, have fun and\, of course\, take any resulting litter (human and canine) away afterwards. \n\n\n\nYours sincerely\, Cottingham FroGS
